A spectacle of sounds that will inspire you,
visual effects that will impress you,
and a fairy tale that will charm you.
Gilles Parenteau presents
His Virtual Symphony, a 21st century orchestral instrument that honours its ancestor, the pipe organ.
With multiple keyboards and foot pedals, each note is played with 2 hands and 2 feet, without the help of recording or automation device.
You will wonder how one man can play an orchestra, how he can perform all styles with ease, from classical to jazz to funk to blues, and how he manages to play while his keyboards are moving.
Gilles has made his own arrangements of movie soundtracks and classics that you will recognize; he has crafted his own instrument, and engineered an original stage.
An experienced musician, Gilles has composed dozens of scores for CBC radio and television. His work has been performed by the Vancouver, Edmonton and Winnipeg symphony orchestras. His music has been broadcast in 26 countries. He was the recipient of the CBC award for best recording of the year. Since coming to Nelson in 1990 to teach at Selkirk College, Gilles has coordinated projects such as the International Rotary Conference in Trail, an annual show called Music Feeds, and wrote and performed the theme song for the BC Winter Games opening event.
